Mission Five

Visit Bird Videos and Bird Cams to get an idea of what it's like to observe birds in action.

Now you can observe your habitat to see if it attracts birds.

Print out some Bird Observation Record sheets

Plan to visit your habitat at different times of day for 1-2 weeks. Observe for at least 15 minutes each time.

Every time you see a bird in the habitat, write down what you see.

Be a careful observer. Notice the details. Identify the bird. Be sure to watch what the bird is doing. Notice what parts of the habitat the bird likes.
How much time does the bird spend:

  • getting food
  • watching for predators
  • chasing other birds
  • other actions

Be careful not to scare the birds away!

  • Sit still, don't be fidgety or wave your arms
  • Make slow, smooth movements
  • Don't make a lot of noise

How did you do?
